LONDON – SIR Alex Ferguson admits he plans to have little contact with football once he retires as Manchester United manager.

The 69-year-old intends to remain with United for as long as he feels healthy enough to cope with the stresses and strains of life at Old Trafford.

But Ferguson, who decided to retire and then changed his mind in 2002, knows the day will come when he no longer wishes to continue in one of football’s most pressurised jobs.

When that happens, the Scot, whose side are currently top of the Premier League, intends to walk away completely rather than seek another position in the game that has been his life for so long.

‘I will probably have an interest in Manchester United in some capacity of course but the important thing is to cut yourself completely off,’ Ferguson told ESPN.

‘I would never go to any other job or anything like that, no chance. Once I’m finished at United I’ll be heading for the hills and the sunset. I will be taking a rest but the important thing for anyone who retires is to be active, so I will take other interests up.’ — AFP
