What is the average number of apps in a Singaporean’s phone?

Singapore – Singapore tops in a list of ten countries, when it comes to the number of apps in smartphones of the users.

According to a recent survey commissioned by Nokia, about 67% of Singaporean respondents claim to own up to 30 apps in their mobile phones, while 28% report to have more than 30 at a time.

The survey conducted in November 2010 included other countries such as Brazil, China, Germany, India, Italy, South Africa, Spain, the UK and the US.

Meanwhile, 69% of smartphone users sampled in Singapore also believe apps truly benefit their lives, relying on them while at home (22%), travelling (13%), or at work (12%).

The “app-itite” of Singaporeans is segmented by regions, the research found. People located in central Singapore are fans of utilities apps, with the highest percentage of people downloading them throughout the country. East-side Singaporeans put more focus on entertainment apps with 18% downloading them, while one in five northern Singaporeans download smartphone apps two to three times a week.

North-eastern Singaporeans tend to prefer an app to a guidebook telling them about a new place they are visiting, while 51% of Singaporeans from the west mostly use the apps while commuting to or from work.

Nokia worked with Cornell University’s leading sociologist and professor of science and technology studies Trevor Pinch, who summarised smartphone behaviour into six archetypes called “appitypes” – appthusiast, appcentric, live wire, creator, connector, and apprentice.

“Apps are a great way to personalise your mobile. Like our old records or CD collections, apps reveal who we are – whether we look at the type of apps people have, how they organise them, or which one they most use,” George Linardos, vice president of media for Nokia, said. – Marketing Magazine
