What is the COE trend?

CERTIFICATE of Entitlement (COE) premiums for big cars have continued their downward slide after there were 13-year highs in December 2010′s final round of bidding.

The COE premium for cars above 1,600cc ended at $58,910 – a drop of $10,090 or 14.6 per cent.

For Open COEs, which can be used for any vehicle type but which end up being used mainly for bigger cars – the premium registered a smaller 11.6 per cent drop to $67,009 (from $75,789).

But premiums for the popular cars of up to 1,600cc category, have risen after they registered the largest drop among all categories in the first bidding exercise for 2011.

The COE for cars of up to 1,600cc now costs $40,123 – a rise of $1,234 or 3.1 per cent.

Motorcycle premiums have also risen, landing at $1,690 from $1,503, while commercial vehicle COE premiums ended lower at $30,000, from $35,111.
